Formula Auto X Brake Pads

Formula Auto X Performance street pads are a unique mix of high performance street pad and a competition race pad. With characteristics of both, the Formula Auto-X Pad is an entry level track orientated pad that can also be driven on the street.

The Formula Auto X Performance street series features a high co-efficient of friction (mU) with a wide temperature range (250-1000 degree’s), and an aggressive initial bite. To aid in street use, it uses a lower dust compound (light dust) that is also rotor friendly. It has been formulated for reduced noise when compared to its other competitors.

    First and foremost these brakes are not for the complainers but for the performers. They are loud and make a lot of dust. Besides that these things perform like no other. I have tried a lot different setups on different platforms and these by far surpass them all. I am currently running these brakes with slotted front rotors and blank rear rotors on my 2015 Subaru sti. The stock brembos are great for this car but these out perform them. I haven’t been able to test these out on a road course yet but for daily use they have great stopping power when requested. Can’t wait to see how these perform as I enter the 2018 race season

    These are really amazing pads. I have 96spec Integra Type R (4×114.3) and they stopped amazing!!! Less dust came out from the pads compare to hawk racing and quiet!!!
    Definitely recommend!!!!

    The variant of these brakes I use on my VW GTI have been excellent. I got sick of swapping my street pads for my track pads every event, but I didn’t like any of the other “compromise pads” out there either, until these. They don’t bite as hard as my dedicated DTC-60s – big surprise. But they’re about 90% as good, and they don’t sound like a locomotive trying to come to a stop, when cold. Plus, they save me 3+ hours of my life, swapping pads, every time I have a track weekend. My DTC-60s have sat unused since I purchased these. I didn’t think a “compromise pad” would be sufficient for both, but these are excellent. I will continue to use these, not only on my occasionally-tracked GTI, but on my other street cars as well, as you get track-sufficient performance with little to no noise, if you maintain the pad/rotors properly. On that note, mine were silent until after a track weekend, when some dust or something had gotten inbetween the pad and the rotor. Cleaning it out returned them to quiet operation again, another impressive feat for a pad so aggressive. They also have very minimal dust, feels like 10% of the DTC-60s, for my setup, which includes solid rotors. Well done, Ravi.

    On my 2017 WRX, these pads continue to impress me daily. They give me a sense of confidence in my brakes that I never had before, even compared to the Stoptech Sport pads I was running previously. The stopping power is incredible for a street pad but they require a trained foot. If you mash on these you will activate ABS (dry roads). But if you modulate the pedal the feedback is precise and give you exactly what you ask from them. I recently purchased the STi Brembo brakes for my WRX and will not hesitate to pick up another set of these pads to drop in. Performance is amazing, but I’m truly struggling to find a downside to these. I have not heard a single squeak or squeal since I installed them (unlike my Stoptechs). And surprisingly, during normal driving they seem to dust less than my Stoptechs as well. You can not go wrong with these!!

    These pads are by far the craziest performing pads I’ve ever had. Its pretty unbelievable how well they work. I put them on my daily and I must admit, I’ve almost ate my dash board a few times. highly recommend this for anything from spirited street use to full blown race applications. Great product

    I have had the Formula AutoX pads installed front and back since 2/09/2018 and have put roughly 500 street miles on them and 2 events; one at the Musselman Honda Circuit Test and Tune (2/11/18) and the other at AZ Border Region Autocross (2/25/18). I had previously been using EBC Yellowstuff in front and EBC Redstuff in the rear (playing around with bias for street/autocross).

    The initial bed-in of the brakes was done with some light 60 mph braking to bring up the temps, followed by hard braking from 60-20 mph for a dozen repetitions; I then followed that up with another round of the same after a brief cool down period. After the bed-in was complete, the brakes felt great. At first, there was slightly less feel of initial bite on the street than I was used to with the EBC (and personally less than I prefer), but it was very easy to adapt to and now seems to have come around with more miles. As for the rest of the brake feel, the pedal modulation was much improved, giving a much wider window to operate the brakes in, with a more progressive pedal feel before hitting full braking.

    The increased pedal modulation made them very easy to control at MHC, with the braking feeling much more controlled than with the EBC pads. They held up very well at MHC with no fade or fall-off in performance at all during 20 minute sessions. The maximum speed I ran there was ~72 mph at the end of both straights. I ran 61 laps in total with 48 of them being flying laps; visual inspection of the brakes indicated very little pad wear from the initial thickness.

    For the AZ Border Region autocross, there was not much braking on the course (as with most autocross events that I have been to) and certainly not hard braking. The pads certainly require a soft touch for autocross as anything more than light tap on the pedal will slow the car significantly (in autocross terms). Again, something that will just take some adaptation and falls in line with my personal preferences.

    The final item would be dust and noise. While the fronts did dust significantly over the course of 3, 20 minute sessions at MHC, street and autocross dust is slightly less than the EBC Yellowstuff. As for sound, the brakes are still dead silent outside of very light pedal pressure combined with slow speeds (stop-and-go traffic or occasional low speed stops at a traffic light/intersection). Otherwise, their street manners are very composed and livable for daily-driving.

    In summary, a great pad and my new regular use material for the car.

    Car Details: 2005 Honda S2000 with moderate modifications. It is a mostly built SCCA Solo STR build that is driven aggressively and almost daily. It is running OEM brake calipers with Centric Premium brake rotors, SS lines, and Motul RBF 600. There are 211K miles on the car.

    So I waited to write a review on these pads after several weeks of driving. These work well for HPDE and AutoX events as other have mentioned already. My review focuses on them as a street/DD pad. I noticed drivers asking how they perform as a street/DD application. Let me tell you….they are fantastic! Probably the best pads I’ve had for street use and I’ve used quite a few different brands. On a daily basis, they are responsive without any detectable dust. The initial bite and modulating feel is extremely effective during heavy traffic and quick stops. I inspected the brake pad material in comparison to some others before my install. These are quality pads! I’m impressed at the consistent feel on brake application in various condition including high heat and cold stops. With the right install procedures, there is absolutely no noise. On DD duties, these will be my go to pads from now on. Absolutely no need to look anywhere else. Anyone concerned about street or daily driving duties in conjunction with HPDE/AutoX events, don’t be….just buy a set and you will not be disappointed. They are a great buy for the price as well. Thanks WDL for turning me onto these brake pads. I will be ordering additional sets of pads for sure.

    Got a set of these pads from Ravi in his first batch of Test pads. I have run them now for over 13k miles and at least 10 Track Days. They still amaze me with their stopping power. Especially on a car as heavy as my Audi TT
